What is GRE?
GRE-Graduate Record Examinations. It is a standardized test taken by the candidates, who want to apply for admissions in graduate schools in various countries, especially the U.S. More than 100000 candidates from 160 countries around the world, take the GRE-Graduate Record Examinations test at nearly 700 test centers. The candidates who are interested in pursuing MBA, MS, master’s degree or any specialized master’s course can apply for the GRE test. It is conducted and administered by Educational Testing Service ( ETS ).
This exam measures the candidate’s abilities in mathematics, reasoning, reading and essay writing. The Graduate Record Examinations test is into two types like GRE general test and GRE subject test. The GRE-general test consists of 3 parts like quantitative, verbal reasoning and analytical writing. The GRE subject test is taken by the candidates in special fields like chemistry, biology, mathematics, psychology, literature in English, and physics.
Most of the universities in Europe and Asian countries accepted the GRE scores for graduate or postgraduate programs. The candidate can register for Graduate Record Examinations test via online, phone and email. Firstly, the candidate has to create an ETS account for the registration and ‘My GRE account’ to check the scores after the test. After creating an account, the candidate has to fill in the details like the GRE test type ( general or subject), academic background, location and test date. The candidate can make payment through a master card, debit card, or credit card or American Express. The registration fee for the GRE-Graduate record examinations general test is 205$ and for the GRE subject test 150$ approximately.
While the GRE subject test is the paper-based format. The duration of the GRE general test is 3 hours 40 minutes. Candidates can apply for the GRE test once every 21 days, up to 5 times within a year. This is applied to the candidates, even if their scores are canceled previously.
The scores of the GRE -Graduate Record Examinations test is valid for 5 years and the candidate can request to re-score up to 3 months after the test date. The results of the GRE -Graduate Record Examinations test are available in the Graduate Record Examinations accounts of the candidates. The unofficial results are available at the respective test centers. Whereas the official test results are available within 10 to 15 days of the test date.
The analytical writing section is scored between 0-6 points, with half point increment; verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning is scored between 130-170 with 1 point increment each. Most of the American graduate programs and more than 1200 business schools accept the GRE scores. There are no eligibility criteria for applying the GRE test. But the only thing is, the candidate has to fulfill the admission criteria asked by the institutions or universities.
