IELTS general training test is used to assess the candidate’s ability in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language for work, migration, and immigration purposes.
Listening, reading and writing tests are conducted on the same day. But the speaking test must be completed within a week before or after the completion of other tests. The total time given to complete the test is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
IELTS General Listening
In the IELTS general listening test, the candidate has to listen to the recordings given by the IELTS examiner and then answers to a series of questions. The recordings may be a conversation between two people, speech about local facilities, a conversation between two people set in an education or training or a monologue on an academic subject. The time given to complete this test is approximately 30 minutes. This test is used to analyze the candidate’s main ideas, and opinions on the conversation. The series of questions will be in the form of multiple choices, sentence completion, matching, diagrams, illustrations and many more.
IELTS General Reading
The IELTS general reading test consists of 40 questions and it is designed to test the candidate’s reading skills. This test includes the reading of detailed information, understanding logical argument, recognizing writer’s opinion, attitudes and purpose. The questions are extracted from books, magazines, newspapers, advertisements, guidelines, academic materials and many more. The time given to complete this test is approximately 60 minutes. The questions asked in this test are in the form of multiple choices, identifying information, identifying the writer’s view or ideas, short answer questions, flowchart completion, diagrams and many more.
IELTS General Writing
In the IELTS general writing test, the candidate will be asked to write a letter of requesting information or explanation of the situation. The letter may be personal, semi-formal or formal in style. And also IELTS examiner asks to write an essay in response to a point of view, argument or problem. The essay can be personal in style. This test is used to assess the overall English fluency, information and ideas.
The IELTS general speaking test includes the introduction of the candidate, general questions about familiar topics like home, family, work, studies and interests. In the second part, the examiner asks the candidate to talk about the particular topic and one or two questions are asked from that topic to discuss the ideas and issues. This test refers to the English communication, grammatical errors, accuracy, pronunciation, information and ideas.
The IELTS General training test results are in the form of 9 band system to evaluate the candidate’s English fluency. All the IELTS general training results are reported between 0 and 9. The overall band score is the average score of all the 4 skills.
