OCCUPATIONAL ENGLISH TEST

OET is the Occupational English Test. It is an international English language test, which assesses the communicational skills of health care professionals who want to register and practice abroad. OET  is an English language proficiency test to assess the candidate’s language skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. For example, if the candidate wants to become a registered doctor or nurse in Australia, then the candidate must submit an OET score for English language proficiency assessment. OET scores are accepted for various medical professions like pharmacy, optometry, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, nurse, medicine, radiography, pediatric, speech pathology, dietary, and dental.

OCCUPATIONAL ENGLISH TEST is recognized by regulatory healthcare bodies and councils in Australia, Singapore, and New Zealand; and also the Australian Department of the immigration and visas, which includes mainly for work, student visas, and migration.

OET is designed to asses the candidate’s English communication skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Because communication plays an important role in the healthcare sector or in the medical profession. After attempting OET, the candidate will receive reliable and accurate results in grades for all the 4 skill tests. The grades ranging from A (highest) to E (lowest). The listening and readings tests will be evaluated by trained examiners at the OET center. Whereas writing and speaking tests will be evaluated by at least two trained and certifies examiners at the OET center.

To avoid conflicts, answer booklets, scripts and audio files are assigned to the examiners randomly for the accurate evaluation. OET speaking test is scored on the basis of overall communication, English fluency, grammar errors, pronunciation, accent and expression. While the writing test is scored on the basis of comprehension, task fulfillment, grammar, information, ideas, and presentation features.

Candidates can get their test results via online approximately after 16 days of each test date. The hard copy of the results will be available on the official OCCUPATIONAL ENGLISH TEST website within 5 days after reporting of online results. Candidates will receive the results of reading, writing, listening, and speaking tests in grades.

The grades ranging from A ( highest) to E ( lowest). Grade A indicates the highest level of performance in English communication. Grade B indicates that the candidate is having English fluency and accuracy, which is used for professional needs. Grade C indicates a good level of performance, that is not accepted by a range of health and medical councils. Grade D and grade E indicates moderate and lowest level of performance, that means the candidate has to improve in all 4 skill tests.
