PTE Academic test format:
PTE academic test format measures the candidate’s skill sets such as reading, writing, listening and speaking the English language. According to the PTE test format, the writing and speaking tests are conducted in one section. While the listening and reading tests are conducted separately. The total duration of the test is 3 hours and it is a computer-based examination. The candidate should use a computer and headset to listen to the recordings, respond and read the questions.
The PTE Academic test format is completely based on real-life academic and general content.
In part 1 of the PTE Academic test format, speaking and writing skills are evaluated. The PTE Academic speaking test also assesses the candidate’s speaking, listening and writing skills in the English language. That means the candidate has to pay attention to answer the questions asked by the examiner.
PTE Academic Speaking and Writing
The PTE speaking test contains personal introduction where the candidate has to introduce themselves within 30 seconds. And then speaking and writings skills of the candidate are assessed by conducting several tasks like repeating the sentence spoken in an audio clip or recording, reading the text aloud, responding to the questions, retelling the lecture, writing an essay on the given topic, answering the questions, and summarizing the given academic topic. The total duration to complete this section is 77-93 minutes.
PTE Academic Reading
In the PTE reading test, reading skills of the candidate are assessed. Before answering the questions, the candidate should check the timer on the screen and read the instructions carefully. This section contains passages, reorder paragraphs, fill in the blanks, and multiple choice questions. The time given to complete this test is 32-40 minutes.
PTE Academic Listening
In the PTE listening test, the candidate has to answer the questions based on several audio clips or recordings. The audio or video clips are played only once. This test is used to assess the listening skills of the candidate. This test includes summarizing the spoken text, answering multiple choice questions, fill in the blanks, highlighting the correct and incorrect words, writing the dictation, and selecting the missing word. The time given to complete this test is 45-57 minutes. The candidates are given 10 minutes time to summarize their answers. They have to listen to the recordings carefully and answer the questions.
The PTE test format is completely computer-based for evaluating the English language proficiency of non-native English speakers who want to study abroad. The PTE results will be declared within 5 days from the test date. Note that, the response should be done before the progress bar on the computer screen reaches to the end. Otherwise, the recording of the answers automatically stops and the candidate will lose the point. On the computer screen, there will be a recording box icon, where the answers are recorded for evaluation.
